Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.
The idea of a driverless car is not new. Now there are already cars on the road that can park themselves. But a
truly self-driving car, one that can drive itself, is being tested by scientists and engineers.
Self-driving cars have already tested on public roads. These cars not only record images of the road, but their
computerized maps view road signs, find alternative routes and see traffic lights even before they are seen by a person.
By using radars and cameras, the cars can analyse information about their surroundings faster than a human can.
In some of the tests, the car learn the details of a road by driving on it several times, and when it is time to drive itself, it
can identify when there are pedestrians crossing and then stops to let them pass by. Self-driving cars could make
transport safer for all of us by eliminating the cause of most of today’s accidents.
Although self-driving cars may seem far off, some people believe that there will be driverless cars in showrooms in
about 10 years.

The driving rules can be very different among countries and areas. Therefore, you need to learn the laws before travelling abroad, or you will get into trouble with the police.

The most common difference is the legal driving age. Simply, it is the age when a person can get their driving license to drive a motor vehicle. Most countries have a driving age of at least eighteen. However, in some states of the USA, the number is sixteen. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, a person must be at least fifteen to drive.

Surprisingly, women in some parts of the world are not allowed to drive no matter how old they are. Instead, they must travel by car with a male family member or hired male driver. This situation has changed, but only recently. Some countries even have very strange or unusual laws. For example, in Cyprus, it is against the law to eat or drink anything while driving.

Thinking about how we will be travelling in 10 or 20 years is very interesting. Will we still be using planes or will we be flying our cars from Paris to London? Here are some suggestions.
- SkyTrain: Currently being developed at NASA, SkyTrain looks like the monorail at Disney World. Moving at 240km/h and using small amount of energy, it could be the future of city transportation. SkyTrain has the passenger capacity of a 6-lane highway.
- Flying cars: Zhu Wenxi and Lai Zexin, Chinese students, have designed a solar-powered flying car that doesn’t need a runway to take off. If you have about 200 hundred thousand dollars, you will own this vehicle soon.
- An electric mininus: The minibus Cameo, designed by Martin Pes, can carry 32 passengers but it is small enough to get its way out of a traffic jam. Its electric motor and low weight mean that it can be recharged in seconds while stopping and it has zero emission.
- An eco-taxi: Taxis are bad for the environment and traffic jams. We enter eco-taxi, and individual taxis form a train powered by solar panels.

c. A long runway is necessary for flying cars to take off. …………
d. Because it is small, an electric minibus can avoid traffic jams. …………
