A. Land
If you enjoy the romance of the high seas, this film
is for you. Teenager Tom Dudley hides on a ship
sailing to the Americas. He hopes to become rich
but that's not how things end for Tom. Although
made in the 1970s with none of the special effects
we expect today, this film is a fine piece of story
telling.
B. The Tower
This movie was in cinemas last year and it is director
Blake Cole’s best film. The film is very close to the
original book and the main characters are played
beautifully by two unknown young actors. They bring
the past back to life and make you really care about
them. So when they eventually marry you’ll have a
tear in your eye!
C. Blaze
This film may not be full of Hollywood stars but it's
full of high-speed chases, amazing computer
graphics and fantastic music. In the year 4838,
Jonas leaves the world he loves to look for work on
a distant planet. However, he finds more than he
expected. This film is based on the popular cartoon
novel by Toshio Yoshida.
D. Net Worth
Vince is a science geek who spends ah his time
playing computer games. So everyone is surprised
when he suddenly becomes a millionaire after
inventing a new game that people can play on the
internet. Laugh out loud as Vince enjoys himself
being the new ‘Mr Popular’ at school.
E. Star Child
Sunny Jones, played by Bonny Wild, is a teenager
who finds herself in the land of Zorn, under the spell
of an evil queen. Although it’s not in colour, the
singing and dancing and Wild’s wonderful voice
bring the film to life and make it as enjoyable today
as it was back in 1941, when it was made.
F. Downlord
In director Guss Hall's first film, Katie's life is
controlled by the tracks she's listening to on her
iPod. She falls in love with Toby while she's listening
to love songs but things go wrong between them
when she starts listening to modern jazz! Well
known stars Hedda Gold and Jake Myers keep the
laughs coming throughout the film.
G. Making it
Fran is a real young pop singer who dreams of being
famous in this documentary drama. The director,
Bob Johansson, chose to film this movie in black
and white and the final effect is wonderful. The film
shows just how hard it is to make dreams come true.
H. Catch
Harry Black is a spy, at least he says he is, but then
he meets and falls in love with Greta who might
actually be a spy. There are some amusing, high
speed conversations in this film, so listen carefully
and enjoy the action. Arc they spies or not? You’ll
only find out in the final scene.

IV. Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions below.

There are different ways to keep fit. One of the most important ways is by exercising. Exercising must be done regularly. The amount of exercise done each time is dependent on the free time that a person has. Exercises can be done from twenty minutes to an hour. Sometimes, daily five-minute exercises are just as effective.

Exercising can take place both indoors and outdoors. Those who exercise indoors often do so in the comfort of gymnasiums. They train on equipment that has been specially designed for the different parts of the body. Sometimes, games can also be played indoors. Badminton courts and even some swimming pools are found indoors.

There are many different types of outdoor exercises. These include tennis, cycling and even rock climbing. Most people enjoy outdoor activities because they like being in the Sun or are attracted to its sense of peace and quiet. Yet there are others who like the wind blowing against them. Some of these activities are only suitable for people who love adventure.

The type of exercise a person takes up often depends on his lifestyle and personality. It is important that a person finds an exercise that is suitable for him.

According to the passage, why do some people spend less time exercising?

A. Five minutes is effective for them

B. They do not have much free time

C. Gymnasiums are expensive

D. They keep fit not by exercising

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 35 to 42.

Public holidays in the United Kingdom, commonly referred to as bank holidays, are days where most businesses and non – essential services are closed although an increasing number of retail businesses (especially the larger ones) do open on some of the public holidays. There are restrictions on trading on Sundays and Christmas Day. Four public holidays are common to all countries of the United Kingdom. These are: New Year's Day, the first Monday in May, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Some banks open on some bank holidays. In Scotland, while New Year's Day and Christmas Day are national holidays, other bank holidays are not necessarily public holidays, since the Scots instead observe traditional local customs and practice for their public holidays. In Northern Ireland, once again, bank holidays other than New Year's Day and Christmas Day are not necessarily public holidays. Good Friday and Christmas Day are common law holidays, except in Scotland, where they are bank holidays. In Scotland the holiday on 1 January (or 2 January if 1 January is Sunday) is statutory, and 25 December is also a statutory holiday (or 26 December if Christmas Day falls on a Sunday). Boxing Day is a holiday traditionally celebrated the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradesmen would receive gifts, known as a "Christmas box", from their

bosses or employers. Today, Boxing Day is the bank holiday that generally takes place on 26 December. And 28 December only is given if Boxing Day is Saturday.

Like Denmark, the United Kingdom has no national day holiday marked or celebrated for its formal founding date. Increasingly, there are calls for public holidays on the patron saints' days in England, Scotland and Wales. An online petition sent to the Prime Minister received 11,000 signatures for a public holiday in Wales on St. David's Day; the Scottish Parliament has passed a bill creating a public holiday on St. Andrew's Day although it must be taken in place of another public holiday; campaigners in England are calling for a bank holiday on St. George's Day; and in Cornwall, there are calls for a public holiday on St. Piran's Day

Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?

A. If a holiday falls at the weekend, a substitute day is given in place

B. The British people will get 28 December off if Xmas Day is Sunday

C. The U.K. was founded on the same day with Denmark

D. Online petitions for more holidays are more effective than traditional campaigns

In Northern Ireland, once again, bank holidays other than New Year's

Day and Christmas Day are not necessarily public holidays. Boxing Day is a holiday traditionally celebrated the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradesmen would receive gifts, known as a "Christmas box", from their bosses or employers.

Piran's Day.
