If someone is bitten by a snake, you won’t know if it’s a dry bite or a venomous bite – so to be safe, always treat any bite as a venomous bite.
Dry bites, whereby no venom is released, are painful and cause localised redness and swelling.
If the bite is venomous, other symptoms may include a stinging or burning sensation on the skin and feelings of nausea, dizziness, anxiousness and confusion. In severe cases, the bite may result in paralysis or coma.
Only a handful of people die from a venomous snake bite in Australia each year. Knowing what to do if bitten by a snake and giving proper first aid is essential in keeping those numbers down and reducing them even further.
Snake venom is carried in the lymphatic system and not in the blood stream, as many mistakenly believe. That’s why the main aim of snake bite first aid is to reduce lymphatic flow by applying continuous firm pressure over the affected limb. This is known as the Pressure Immobilisation Technique (PIT).
Immediate first aid should be applied to any snake bite victim. Follow the steps below and don’t forget to read the DON’Ts printed in red at the bottom of our guide.

First aid is the assistance given to any person suffering a sudden illness or injury,with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery. It includes initial intervention in a serious condition prior to professional medical help being available, such as performing CPR while awaiting an ambulance, as well as the complete treatment of minor conditions, such as applying a plaster to a cut. First aid is generally performed by the layperson, with many people trained in providing basic levels of first aid, and others willing to do so from acquired knowledge. Mental health first aid is an extension of the concept of first aid to cover mental health.
There are many situations which may require first aid, and many countries have legislation, regulation, or guidance which specifies a minimum level of first aid provision in certain circumstances. This can include specific training or equipment to be available in the workplace (such as an Automated External Defibrillator), the provision of specialist first aid cover at public gatherings, or mandatory first aid training within schools. First aid, however, does not necessarily require any particular equipment or prior knowledge, and can involve improvisation with materials available at the time, often by untrained persons.
First aid can be performed on all mammals, although this article relates to the care of human patients.

Topic 1 :
I would like to talk about the Lunar New Year festival, also known as the Tet holiday, which is the occasion expected the most by Vietnamese people every year. The festival usually lasts for around 3-4 days, and it takes place when a new year comes according to the lunar calendar.
– The Lunar New Year festival takes place because it is one of the most well-known traditions of Vietnam. Our people have been celebrating this occasion for thousands of years, and although there has been some recent argument about whether we should stop celebrating this festival, I do not think this activity will come to an end soon, at least not in the short term.
– There are some common things that people do during this festival. Perhaps the most important thing is that people who work and study in big cities would go back to their hometown to celebrate the new year with their families and relatives. The new year festival is one of very few occasions that families can gather together, so it is easy to understand why everyone in Vietnam expects this festival so much. Another thing that we usually do is that we give children some “lucky money” with the hope that it will bring fortune to those kids. We also have some other activities such as making “chung” cake, visiting temples and pagodas… and so on.
– The new year festival is so important to me and also to all Vietnamese citizens. The reason is because we get more days off from work and study, and therefore we have more time to spend with our families and our loved ones. It is also a great time to think about what we have done in the previous year, and to make plans for the upcoming year.
The first time I attended a first aid course so far when I was a first aidist for 2 years, I remember the first time I was taught useful things from the teachers. The first thing I should do in any case that requires first aid is to follow 3C rules: Look and check first, Call, Care. If in the process of helping we make the victim hurt or have symptoms worse, don't continue because we can make the victim worse. Then, do a general survey, including checking and determining if the victim is in the case of unconsciousness, breathing, and the pulse is still beating. The teacher instructed us to be extremely careful in trying to stay calm and focused, they told me to always carry rescue equipment, wear gloves when working, when going to first aid it is important to protect yourself The self, and most importantly, to administer first aid is to learn as much as possible about what happened to the victim, see their alertness. In the next steps, we must call an ambulance quickly. Bringing them into a recovery position will prevent them from choking if they vomit while you call an ambulance. And so far I have helped many people, I am very happy !
( lần đầu tiên tôi được học một khóa học sơ cứu cho đến nay khi tôi là sơ cứu viên đã 2 năm rồi, tôi nhớ lần đầu tiên tôi được dạy những điều bổ ích từ các thầy cô . Điều đầu tiên tôi nên làm trong bất cứ trường hợp nào mà cần đến sơ cứu đó là tuân theo quy tắc 3C: Coi và kiểm tra sơ, Cuộc gọi, Chăm sóc. Nếu trong quá trình giúp đỡ mà chúng ta làm cho nạn nhân đau hay có những triệu chứng tồi tệ hơn, thì đừng tiếp tục vì chúng ta có thể làm nạn nhân tồi tệ hơn. Sau đó, làm một cuộc khảo sát chung, bao gồm việc kiểm tra và xác định xem nạn nhân có đang trong trường hợp bất tỉnh hay không, đang thở, và mạch vẫn đập. Giáo viên dặn dò chúng tôi vô cùng cẩn thận trong việc cố gắng bình tĩnh và tập trung , họ bảo tôi phải luôn mang theo thiết bị cứu hộ, đeo găng tay khi làm việc, khi đi sơ cứu quan trọng là phải tự bảo vệ bản thân, và quan trọng nhất để tiến hành sơ cứu là tìm hiểu càng nhiều càng tốt về những gì đã xảy ra với nạn nhân, xem độ tỉnh táo của họ. Trong những bước tiếp theo, chúng ta phải gọi xe cứu thương nhanh chóng. Đưa họ vào tư thế phục hồi sẽ giúp họ không bị nghẹt thở nếu họ có ói trong lúc bạn gọi xe cứu thương. Và đến nay tôi đã sơ cứu được rất nhiều người , tôi thấy rất vui ! )
