Dear Alex, I am glad to hear that both you and your family are fine. I am writing this letter to answer your questions in your recent letter which I received last week. I want to tell you about my current weather situation in my country. Because it is in summer, it is quite hot and dry now. I think that it is the early period of summer, it is not very hot and sometimes, it rains heavily. At this time of year, the best outdoor activities are swimming, playing football in the afternoon. Because of the hot weather, I prefer staying at home to going out. I am advised not to go out to take part in many outdoor activities at this time. However, swimming is one of the most interesting that I always try in summer because it gives me comfortable feelings. I have answered all your questions. I look forward to receiving the next letter from you. Best wishes, Jane.

Read the passage, then write true (T) or false (F) for the following sentences.

Learning a language is, in some ways, like learning how to fly or play the piano. There some differences, but there is a very important similarity. It is this: learning how to do such things needs lots of practice. It is never enough simply to “know” something. You must be able to “do” things with what to know. For example, it is not enough simply to read a book on how to fly an aeroplane. A book can give you lots of information about how to fly, but if you only read a book and then try to fly without a great deal of practice first, you will crash and kill yourself. The same is true of learning the piano or learning a foreign language. Can you speak English well without having lots of practice? “Practice makes perfect” is what every learner of a foreign language should know.

1. Learning a foreign language and learning to fly are the same in an important way.

2. Information about flying from books is enough for someone to fly.

3. It is dangerous to try to fly without any real practice.

4. Talking to a native speaker can be a good way to speak English well.

5. Language learners can make their English perfect without practice.

Singapore is a bustling international city with many high-rise buildings, parks and culturally rich venues. Singapore is also the intersection of the most quintessential beauty from the East and the West.
Singapore is one of the smallest countries in the world and the smallest country in Southeast Asia. Despite its modest area, but with a free trade economy and high quality workforce. Singapore has really gotten a very solid position in the world.

With a complex population of culture, cuisine, art and architecture, Singapore is a dynamic city, rich in color and contrast. It is not wrong to say that Singapore is the intersection of the most quintessential beauty from the East and the West.

As a country located in Asia, but English is used as the official language in Singapore. English is popularized and brought into education from elementary schools here. Most people can speak this international language. From the smallest things, the traffic signs, direction signs ... all use English, which makes it easier for tourists or foreigners to live and work. For students who are not fluent in English, this is a good opportunity for you to contact the English language 24 / 24h.

In conclusion, I love Singapore so much.

Easy English? English is an important global language, but that doesn't mean it is easy to learn. Many experts have tried to make English easier to learn, but the weren't always successful. In 1930, Professor CK Ogden of Cambridge University invented Basic English. It had only 850 words (and just eighteen verbs) and Ogden said most people could learn it in just thirty hours. The problem was that people who learned Basic English could write and say simple messages, but they couldn't understand the answers in 'real' English! It was also impossible to explain a word if it wasn't in the Basic English word list. RE Zachrisson, a university professor in Sweden, decided that the biggest problem for learners of English was spelling, so he invented a language called Anglic. Anglic was similar to English, but with much simpler spelling. Father' became 'faadher', 'new' became 'nue' and 'years' became 'yeerz'. Unfortunately, for some students of English, Anglic never became popular. Even easier is the language which ships' captains use: it is called 'Seaspeak'. Seaspeak uses a few simple phrases for every possible situation. In Seaspeak, for example, you don't say, 'I didn't understand, can you repeat that?" it is just, "Say a gain". No more grammar! In the age of international communication through the Internet, a new form of English might appear. A large number of the world's e-mails are in English and include. examples of 'NetLingo' like OIC (Oh, I see) and TTYL (Talk to you later). What is the role of English? 1. When did Professor Ogden invent Basic English? How many words did it have? 2. Why did Professor Zachrisson invent Anglic? What happened to it? 3. What is the feature of Seaspeak? 4. What has appeared in the age of international communication through the Internet? 5.
