E1: True/ False/ Not given

Every school-going child has something to say about their school. Some students enjoy school because it has activities that interest them and they have good friends to play with. However others have different experiences. You know, school may be the last place where they want to be. Some always want to escape from school with boring lessons and tests because there is nothing interesting for them there. So what can be done to make schools a place that all students want to go to every day?

Fun activities: One way to encourage students to enjoy school is to involve them in activities that make them interested. We can make Physical Education at school interesting by teaching simple dances with modern music instead of boring exercise. Providing students with various outside class activities, like hiking or obstacle courses, or with more new clubs involving sports, music, or movies, can also be a good way.

Make school feel a little like home: No one likes to stay in an uncomfortable environment. Therefore, students should be allowed to decorate their classrooms or dorms with pictures of family, friends or even idols to make school homely. Then, they will feel happier and more comfortable.

Encourage socializing: In order for students to think that school is about more than just studying; outings or field trips should be organized once in a while. This will help students get to know other people outside their school, as well learn the art of socializing.

1.Half of students like to go to school.

2.If there are more interesting activities at school, students will enjoy going to school.

3.Omitting Physical Education at school can make students interested.

4.Outside class activities are unnecessary to make school interesting.

5.Now many students aren't allowed to hang pictures on their walls at school.

6.Most students think that school is only about studying.

(Specify the following following the following statement is true, Sai or No in read.)  1. Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the following questions.

TEXAS

A Texas middle school is under fire after students say they have been banned from speaking Spanish in class. The students say their principal announced the rule last month over the intercom. Inside the walls of Hemptead Middle School, a language controversy is brewing. “There’s one teacher that said, „If you speak Spanish in my class, I’m gonna write you up,” 8th grader Tiffani Resurez says. Four students say their principal’s announcement – banning them from speaking Spanish in class – has given teachers and fellow students a hall pass to discriminate. “She was like, „No speaking Spanish.’ She told me that. I was like, „That’s my first language.’ She said, „Well, you can get out,” fellow classmate Yedhany Gallegos says. A letter sent home by the superintendent says, “Neither the district nor any campus has any policy prohibiting the speaking of Spanish.” The four students feel that the statement from the superintendent has not been made entirely clear that their school. “People don’t want to speak it anymore and don’t want to get caught speaking it because they’re going to get into trouble,” 6th grader Kiara Lozano says. Parents, like Cynthia Zamora, believe the school is not getting to the root of the problem. She wants to know why the “No Spanish” announcement was ever made in the first place. “I was very surprised that she would even go to such lengths,” Zamora says. Many students at the school grew up speaking Spanish at home, and they say it often comes as second nature when they’re talking to each other at school. “I’m not scared. I’m gonna keep speaking my language. That’s my first language, and I’m gonna keep doing it,” Lozano said. The principal has been placed on paid administrative leave while the district investigates. A spokewoman for Hempstead Independent School District has released a statement saying, in part, “The district is committed to efficiently and effectively resolving this matter with as little disruption to our students and their learning environment as possible.”

What can we infer about the policy on no speaking Spanish?

A. All the students and school staff were irritated by the policy

B. Students were against the rule at first but then compromised

C. The principal who made this announcement hated Spanish

D. Only people inside of the school knew about the rule when it was announced

Read the following passage on transport, and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 43 to 50.

    (1) Increasing numbers of parents in the U.S. are choosing to teach their children at home. In fact, the U.S. Department of Education has estimated that in 1999, about 850,000 children were being homeschooled. Some educational experts say that the real number is double this estimate, and the ranks of homeschooled children seem to be growing at the average rate of about eleven percent every year.

    (2) At one time, there was a theory accounting for homeschooling: it was traditionally used for students who could not attend school because of behavioral or learning difficulties. Today, however, more parents are taking on the responsibility of educating their own children at home due to their dissatisfaction with the educational system. Many parents are unhappy about class size, as well as problems inside the classroom. Teacher shortages and lack of funding mean that, in many schools, one teacher is responsible for thirty or forty students. The children are, therefore, deprived of the attention they need. Escalating classroom violence has also motivated some parents to remove their children from school.

    (3) Although there have been a lot of arguments for and against it, homeschooling in the U.S. has become a multi-million dollar industry, and it is growing bigger and bigger. There are now plenty of websites, support groups, and conventions that help parents protect their rights and enable them to learn more about educating their children. Though once it was the only choice for troubled children, homeschooling today is an accepted alternative to an educational system that many believe is failing.

Many parents stop their children from going to school because it is now too __ for them.

A. explosive

B. expensive

C. dangerous

D. humorous
