The first rock 'n' roll record to achieve (1.NATION) national popularity was "Rock Around the Clock" made by Bill Haley and the Comets in 1955. Haley succeeded in creating a music that appealed to (2.YOUNG) youth because of its (3.URGENCY) urgent call to dance, and the (4.ACT) action of its lyrics. The melody was (5.CLEAR) clearly laid down by (6.ELECTRICITY) electric guitar; the lyrics were (7.EARTH) earthy and simple. Haley (8.ABRUPT) abruptly ended the ascendancy of the bland and (9.SEMTIMENT) sentimental ballads popular in the 1940s and early 50s.
