must: phải làm gì (theo mong muốn của chủ thể)
have to: phải làm gì (theo mong muốn của người khác, chủ thể có phần bị thúc ép)
ought to: nên làm gì (sự khuyên bảo theo quy chuẩn xã hội; vd: You ought to obey your parents.)
Như vậy, khi muốn nói về những điều cần phải làm trùng với mong muốn chủ thể thì dùng must, nếu không trùng với mong muốn của chủ thể thì dùng have to. Ought to dùng khi diễn đạt lời khuyên, gợi ý theo quan điểm chung của xã hội.
