Dear Lien Ai,
I'm so glad that I can write this letter for you, so today, I willtell you some activities I have done to protect the environment.
I am a volunteer ,so i have done many things or the community service. I planted trees and beautiful flowers in the school yard. It was so great. I collected the rubbish on the beach and in the sea then I recycled them. It helps protect the environment a lot. And I, together with my friends, cleaned the street the street and lake. And I think I will also collect broken glass, can in the park, ‘cause people always throw them indiscriminately.And I prevented people prom cutting down trees, and I asked everyone to grow the forests.These are the things I have done, I think I will do more in the future.

Dear Susan,
It’s been a long time since the last time I wrote to you. A new year is coming, so I wish you and your family happiness and health. My family spent a cheerful holiday in our cozy house. In New Year Eve we had a big party with all my relatives, we got together, talked, sang and waited for the Ñrst moment of New Year 2012. During this holiday I knew more about some interesting customs of our country that I really want to share with you. Those are the things that we should do to bring good luck for a new year. The Ñrst thing is that eating black-eyed peas are said to bring richness and safety to the coming year. Another interesting custom is eating pork on New Year’s Day because pigs eat moving forward. Therefore, those who eat pork will move forward, too. One more thing is we consider cabbage as another "good luck" vegetable. Cabbage leaves are also considered a sign of prosperity because we believe that cabbage is the symbol of paper money. I know that you come from Viet Nam and your lunar new year is coming soon. I hope to learn more about the things you often do and your customs to bring lucks on Tet holiday.

For many of us, pen pals were a staple part of childhood. Schools, Guides and Scouts groups regularly paired up overseas buddies, promoting cultural exchange and helping with language practice. Scrawled notes detailing favourite hobbies and pets' names were sent back and forth and, while most correspondences fizzled out after the first couple of letters, some continued for many years.
It would be easy to assume that email and social media killed off the traditional pen pal. However, it seems the hobby is undergoing a revival. Online schemes such as the International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club and The League of Extraordinary Pen Pals are springing up, connecting letter writers around the world. Projects such as indie lifestyle mag Oh Comely's care packages encourage strangers to send beautifully prepared, intricate parcels to one another. Even Reddit has its own pen pal sub-forum.
There is more to the trend than simple analogue festishisation. Pen pal enthusiasts (who, interestingly, seem to be mostly women) say they find handwriting relaxing and meditative, and believe their written relationships are just as central to their lives as face-to-face ones. We spoke to three sets of women about what inspired them to put pen to paper, and the role their friendships have played in their lives.
