HOBBIES IN THE PAST

Like fashion, hobbies change with the times. In our days, a lot of hobbies use techonology: we take dugital photos and post them online and children play computer games . But what did people use to do before this technology? Let's take a look at some hobbies that were popular more than 100 years ago.

Many of the sports that we play today were popular in the past, too. Football became popular and had rules for the first time in the 19th century. Many football clubs were started by enployers, so that workers could play and stay fit. Football was a man sports but both men and woman played other sports, like tennis and croquet. Unfortunately, the long skirts worn at the time didn't help woman with their games at all.

Many girls and woman spent their spare times doing sewing and embroidery. They used a needle and thread to make tiny stitches on a piece of fabric. They made clothes and accessories such as scarves and gloves. They also made home decorations. They created beautiful pictures of flowers, birds and other patterns. They also used to embroider cushions, tablecloths and rugs.

Girls in the 19th centuey used to play with dolls and doll's houses. At the time, toys were handmade. The doll's heads were often made of china and the bodies were made of wood. Rocking horses were also very popular. They were made of wood and their tails were made of real horsehair. Boys used to play with toys trains and railways.

Finally, people in the 19th century loved nature, so one popular hobby was colllecting and drawing butterflies. People used to catch butterflies in nets and fix them on special boards with pins. They used to draw pictures that showed all the details and colours of the beautiful insects.

Past or present, hobbies are a great way to pass the time. They help us show our creativity and used our imagination.

In my free time ,I often reading book.People say that book is the endless source of knowledge, and luckily my favorite activity in my free time is reading books. I read many different kinds of books, such as science fiction, documentary, and horror stories. I live in two different worlds, the first one is my daily life, and the second one in is in the books. I can spend hours reading about a thrilling adventure, a remarkable discovery, or a magical journey. I find those details become more and more realistic when I am deep in to them, and I can experience another fascinating world. Among many books that I have read, my favorite series is Harry Potter. The story is about a little wizard with his great journey to destroy the dark force. I have been reading books since I was a kid; therefore I have a rich imagination and plenty of ideas about almost everything. Everyone has his or her own hobby, and I am glad that I spend my free time and my mind on something that is very helpful.

You can’t buy a drawing by Julian Beever and you can’t see his work in a gallery or museum. Julian makes his amazing pictures on the pavements of city streets. People have called him “the Pavement Picasso” and perhaps you have seen his pictures on the Internet.

Julian has made hundreds of pieces of “pavement art” in different countries – in many parts of Europe and also in the USA, Australia, Japan, Argentina, and Brazil.

His drawings can take three or four days to finish. But because he draws with chalk, the drawings only stay for a short time. When people walk on them or when it rains, they quickly disappear. For Julian, this isn’t a problem. The drawings survive in the photos he has taken, and this is the most important thing for him.

Julian’s fame hasn’t come from experts in the art world, but from the Internet. “The reason why my work has become well known is because people like it and they’ve sent it to each other on the Internet,” he says. “So I know that what I do is popular.”

Julian Beever is from Leicestershire in England, but he now lives in Belgium.

Your body prevents harmful microorganisms entering and causing harm. The
skin, for example, doesn't allow microorganisms to enter. Hairs and mucus in your nose catch invaders, and then you push themucus out when you cough, sneeze or blow your nose. Enzymes and acids in the body, and white blood cells also destroy bacteria.
Do antibiotics help ? Doctors use antibiotic drugs to fight bacterial infections, but antibiotics don't work
against viruses. This is why doctors don't give antibiotics to patients with a
common cold or flu.
How does immunization work ? Immunization
(or vaccination) is another way of protecting the body, by injecting the body with
dead or inactive microorganisms. After vaccination, the body starts to
make antibodies that destroy the microorganism. Because the microorganisms in the
vaccination are not dangerous, the person doesn't getill. When they come

into contact with a live (dangerous) micro organism, then the antibodies
destroy the infection before it makes them ill.
