Since Tet - Vietnamese Lunar New Year - has been, for longer than anyone could remember, among the most important traditional festivals of our country, it's celebration tends to be relatively well-prepared and divers in families. I myself, more than reasonably, has a lot to do too with this day knocking on my very door. The first thing we do as the end of year is approaching, is to finish all our current works in the passing year, cause it gives us a feeling of completion, and that we're off to a fresh start the moment our New Year comes. For instant, I would clean up my room (which I rarely do) and finish all my school works (which I also rarely do). Besides that, a lot like in Western countries, where you ornament your home while longing for important days such as Noel or New Years Eve, Vietnamese people decorates ours. Normally I would help out by going to the Tet market - as you can guess, that market is only open at Tet, which is a silly thing in my opinion - and buy all the best decorations i can find. I'd also buy a lot of candies, cookies and jellies to eat during the festival and to give away, like when people buy Turkey for Thanksgiving. Additionally, some traditional families can make Banh Chung (sticky rice cake) together at home and enjoy themselves while the cake is being cooked. Mine, well, however, of course, doesn't. I have to say, these preparations, along side with many many others, are those that has made Tet one of the most beautiful and enjoyable festival we have annually.

Hoa: Is your school festival tomorrow. Lan?

Lan: Yes, that's right! There will be a lot of contests for school boys and girls, such as a flower arrangement contest, mini football matches, fashion shows and some others... And there is a lot of work to do right now.

Hoa: Really? It’s interesting!

Lan: Would you like to take part in the festival with us?

Hoa: Yes. I'd love to. But is there anything I can do for you?

Lan: Could you help me to send some letters of invitation to our old friends?

Hoa: Yes, of course. Anything else?

Lan: Not really. Thanks, Hoa. And now I have to go to the market and buy some cakes, candies and fruit for our class party. Bye, Hoa. See you tomorrow.

Hoa: Bye.

1, During Tet, Vietnamese people buy all kinds of sweet, so they make Chung cakes as well.

2, The Hung King Temple Festival was a local festival. However, it has become a public holiday in Viet Nam.

3, The Brinze Pagoda is a must to see at the Yen Tu Festival. Nevretheless, visitors have to walk for about 6 hours to reach it.

4, Because Nam and Tom arrive late, they missed the most important part of the festival.

5, If you come to the festival early, you will join the procession.

6, As Julia likes Vietnamese folk songs, so she goes to the Lim festival every year.

This festival is Ooc bom boc. It’s held by our ethnic group in Soc Trang on the 14th and 15th evenings of the 10th lunar month. We worship OUT Moon God at the festival. We thank him because he gives us good harvest and plenty of fish in the rivers.

There are many activities: first we have a worshipping ceremony at home, under the bamboo archway or at the pagoda. When the moon appears, the old pray to the Moon God and the children raise their elapsed hands to the moor. The offerings are green rice flakes, coconuts, potatoes and pia cakes. Then we float beautiful paper lanterns on the river, and the next evening, we hold thrilling dragon boat races.

I like the Hung King Temple Festival a lot. It is held in Phu Tho province from the 8th to 11thof the third lunar month every year. It commemorates and worships the Hung Kings who are the founders and also the first emperors of the nation. It’s impressive because there is a procession from the foot of Nghĩa Linh mountain to the High Temple on top of the mountain. While you are there, you can attend a ceremony of offering incense and specialities to the Hung Kings. Moreover, there are also some great activities such as bamboo swings, lion dances, wrestling and xoan singing performances. I like this festival because it makes me love our ancestors. I also like it because there are a lot of great activities there.

Have you ever joined Hung King Temple Festival? It's one of the most famous festival in Vietnam. It's held in Phu Tho from the 8th to 11th day of the third lunar month. This festival is to commemorate the Hung Kings- the first emperors of our country. I love this festival so much because there are a lot of joyful activities such as procession, offering incense and specialties and other activities such as bamboo swings, lion dances, wrestling and xoan singing performances. If you have a chance, remember to visit Hung Kings Temple Festival. I'm sure you won't regret it. Our Vietnamese people usually say:

Wherever you go

Don't forget to ancestors worshipping day on 10th Match

("Dù ai đi ngược về xuôi

Nhớ ngày giỗ tổ mồng 10 tháng 3")
