In Canada and the United States, (1) one of the most popular days in the year is Halloween. Halloween is on October 31st. It’s a day (2) that/when some people dress up in strange or unusual costumes. For example, they may dress up to look (3) like an animal, a person from a book or movie or a famous person from history. In some places, children go to school in (4)their Halloween costumes. After dark, many young children (5) put on their costumes and visit their neighbors. They knock on the (6) door and shout “Trick or treat!”. Then the neighbors (7) give them some candy, and the children go on to the (8) another house. Adults also enjoy dressing up for Halloween. Have you ever been to Britain? I’ve dreamed of going there (1) since I was a little girl and finally, (2)in the spring of 2012, it happened. I was there three weeks and (3) spent much of that time soaking up the culture, history, and scenery of this incredible island. I visited several districts in England, Wales and Scotland and even (4) made a site trip to Ireland. Every place I went to seemed to be more interesting and more beautiful (5) than the last.
The tour I was with began in London. Of all the sights I saw there, the Tower of London was the most (6) interesting. The Tower is a building complex of incredibly rich history.
Also on the Thames are the Houses of Parliament and, of course, the clock tower housing “Big Ben”. I saw so many landmarks I can hardly remember them all. Although it was just a glimpse of London I did, (7) at least, get a chance to see all the (8) most famous places.
After (9) a couple of days in London we traveled to south of England stopping to vistit Stonehenge. If you don’t know about Stonehenge there are a couple of links on my links page that will (10) take you to sites that can fill you in.
