Long time ago, there was a king in Tibet who loved to eat fish. His love for fish was so great that he could eat almost nothing if there was no fish on the table. It happened one year that there was no rain. Month after month, there was less water in the river, and less and less fish, until there was no fish at all, even for the king. The king could not eat anything. He sent men to all the fishermen’s villages in the country to announce that the man who brought fish to the king’s table could have any reward he asked for. Some time passed and a poor fisherman appeared in front of the king’s palace, carrying a tremendous fish. When the guard at the gate saw the fish, he asked the fisherman to give it to him. Needless to say, the fisherman did not agree and insisted on giving the fish to the king himself. The guard finally agreed to let him go on the condition that the fisherman had to give him half of his reward. After the fisherman met the king, the king asked him what he wanted for the reward. Surprisingly, the fisherman asked for a thousand blows and he shared his reward to the guard at the gate. This gave the guard a lesson about being dishonest.

Canada would remind Norman Bethune, a great Canadian physician doctor, who devoted himself to China during World War II. And now, besides Dr. Bethune, whenever mention of this country with beautiful maples, my Canadian pen pal will come to my mind. I met him in an English-learning forum. I often posted a lot of questions there, and he always voluntarily helped me out. And gradually, we got familiar and became friends. For a while, I was rather depressed. He always encouraged me to cheer up. Now, I still remember well I got an e-card from him. I lighted up after watching that. He often said, “Keep smiling” at the end of his letter to me. He was very tolerant, and I hardly saw he crossed swords against any other forum members there but one time. A woman put up a post, saying, “She would not agree her daughter to marry a black man.” He responded with Martin Luther King’s quote “We must judge people by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin!”. This comment of his branded on my mind then at once. Oh, the cool friend of Canada!
