Earthquake is a sudden movement of the Earth's surface. It can cause great damage. It is caused as the tectonic plates of land hit, bump or slide past each other. Earthquake happens all the time; however, most of the time, we don't feel earthquakes as they are too small to reach us. Sometimes, they are so strong that they can be felt over thousands of miles way. When an earthquake happens, we feel vibrations. We can see that objects are shaken and may fall. Earthquakes can give birth to hills, mountains, holes as well as new oceans. On the negative sides, earthquakes can cause fires, tsunamis, landslides or avalanches. When earthquake happens, we should protect ourselves right away to stay safe.

Damage?

We all know that natural disasters occur all over the world, and they can completely destroy human life as well as our living environment. One of the popular ones is floods, which take place everywhere in the world. A number of different natural causes leads to floods, and theirconsequences are extremely terrible. Recognizing these causes will be of assistance to help us cope with floods effectively.

Floods happen in case an unusually large amount of water accumulates in an area. This phenomenon results from several reasons, and certain things are able to happen when floods occur. The first reason is that thunderstorms take place in an area for a short time. In this case, the rivers and water streams pouring into the sea are flooded with their inability to drain water, causing floods. One of the other causes is the unusual activity of the tides, leading to the seawater to penetrate deeper into the mainland, which results in an increase in the flow of water on large rivers. It is possible to cause extreme tsunamis due to the enhanced effect of the earth’s crust, leading to high-intensity floods. Floods will also happen when man-built dams collapse. These dams receive water from the rivers and are capable of storing large amounts of water, which supports us to change the flow of water. However, sometimes, the amount of water might exceed the tolerance of the dams, as a result, they collapse. At that time, an enormous amount of water will be released, creating a fierce wall of water to pass through and destroy the lands it flows through. These are the main explanations of floods.

With its tremendous destructive power, floods leave serious consequences for people and nature and their consequences are what the power of flowing water destroys. In terms of human life, floods devastate houses, property, and even human lives. When the speed of the water rises at a high-flow rate, such houses designed with their low floors are unable to prevent water from being filled up. Of course, it is the fact that this phenomenon is not too dangerous for human lives; however, the mud and the rubbish as the consequences by the water are left into the house. When the rain stops, the water drains, but the mud and the rubbish still remain, from which the furniture breaks and becomes very difficult to clean. Besides, floods also wipe out nature itself. Floods sweep through the forests, causing the soil in the trees’ roots to erode. Since then, these trees have no land to keep roots and they fall, destroying numerous the world’s forests. Such large losses require quick and positive measures.

Thus, although the damages of floods are inevitable; nevertheless, we need to take appropriate warnings and corrective measures to minimize the degree of their damages. Natural disasters in general and floods, in particular, require governments and people to cooperate to minimize their impacts.

A 'natural disaster' is a major event resulting from natural processes of the Earth. It causes a great loss of life and property. During such disasters, the number of people who are rendered, trippled and houseless is more than the number of people who loose their lives. Even the economy of the place which faces a natural disaster, gets effected.

It is true that a natural disaster is a natural process and we cannot stop it but by making certain preparations, we can reduce the magnitude of the loss to life and property.

Firstly, you should give out food, water, medications and especially money. It is useful to ensure that the rescue worker have the relief fund to provide disasters victims with supply in a timely fashion.

Secondly, many buildings and houses were completely detroyed when natural disasters struck the area. Maybe the people were trapped in homes. We should choose the man who is capable of freeing victims. Then, take them to safe place and contact a local hospital.

Thirdly, you know??? There is a dreadful thing that after the disasters, the debris is scattered throughout the streets, alleys,… It is too dangerous for people to keep under this. So keep out the warning place where is buried by the govement. We can divide into many small groups to clear up the debis quickly.

Only by helping together all by means, can we deal with natural disaster!

Ha Tinh is a disaster-prone province in the central of Viet Nam. Since the beginning of 2015, this province has experienced three massive floods, causing devastating property damage. The floods razed thousands of homes, damaged numerous irrigation works, roads, schools and healthcare centres. Ms. Nga Tran is my aunt, a local resident, recalled the last flood, she said that the flood in June was normal, but the one in September was awful. Water from Ngan Pho River began to submerge the floor, while outside it was still raining heavily. After a while the water was about one meter. She was had no choice but to climb up to the attic and stay there for two days. Like many other residents, all of her furniture was covered in mud, some was completely damaged for having been soaked in the water for too long. But what worried her most was the loss of her rice crop. Three months after the flood, lots of farmers still struggled with finding enough food to eat. If there is no aid from the government, the situation in this province will get worse.

Essay on earthquake:

There are many natural disasters in the world. Earthquakes are one of the most dangerous, over a million earthquakes occurs each year. Although some are too small to be noticed, others may cause damages, death and destruction.

Earthquakes are caused by the movement of the Earth's crust. The crust is made up of plates floating on mantle. When two plates push against each other, it causes earthquakes which may destroys towns or form new climates.

If an earthquake happens under the sea and causes huge waves, it is called a "tsunami". A tsunami can sweep across oceans at the speed of 800 kilometers per hour. When an earthquake happens out in the open seas, the wave can only be about 1 meter high, but when it meets land, it may grow up to 30 meters high and can lead to enormous damage. For instance, a harbor on Okushiri Island, Japan, was destroyed by a tsunami in 1993. When an earthquake happens on land, it may cause more damage to buildings, harm, and death to humans. Described below is how an earthquake usually happens:

1. Barely felt but hanging objects may swing.

2. Felt by all and windows shatter and buildings collapse.

3. Serious damage, cracks open in the ground.

4. May cause death, and landscape changes.

The San Andreas Fault in California is one of the biggest fault lines in the world. Fault lines are along the edge of a moving plate. Most earthquakes happen at fault lines. This is how and what an earthquake does. At first, the focus (centre) of an earthquake sends out shock waves along fault lines through layers of rocks. On land, it causes damage to buildings. An earthquake which struck Turkey was quite large, many people died and many buildings were destroyed. Another earthquake happened in Taiwan. The earthquake in Taiwan was bigger than the earthquake in Turkey but fewer people died; it was strange. Another one was in Mexico and it was after the earthquake in Taiwan. The Rescue Team doesn't know exactly how many people died. It happened in the ocean so it was not too bad. It was about 7 point something on the Richter scale we don't know exactly. Earthquakes may cause volcanic eruptions, and that makes the disaster worse because people have to run to an open space and hide from the volcano too. Some may even cause fires from the damaged kitchens. Scientists use the "Richter Scale" to measure how big an earthquake is and try to be ready for an earthquake but they didn't know how to yet. There are earthquake-proof buildings. Earthquake-proof buildings are built on rubber springs so when an earthquake come, it will sway gently and people will be safe inside. Other buildings break apart and inside, people are injured or harmed. In some schools, they teach what to do in an earthquake. Scientists are also learning about earthquakes. They study equipment on earthquakes and many other things. They study equipment that measures movements in rocks but they don't always get it right. When a big earthquake came, the only good thing from it is that it changes landscapes, so we can have new different landscape that we will never get used to; however, we lose many people and much property unfortunately. Earthquakes are natural disasters and cannot be controlled by human beings now but maybe in the unknown future.
