1) MUST và HAVE TO đều có ý nghĩa là “phải”. Nhưng MUST diễn tả ý nghĩa bắt buộc do xuất phát từ ngoại cảnh còn HAVE TO diễn tả nghĩa “phải” do xuất phát từ chủ quan người nói. HAVE TO dùng được cho tất cả mọi thì con must chỉ dùng để nói về hiện tại hay tương lai.

4)Cả hai từ đều dùng để chỉ sự thành công trong việc thực hiện hành động“Can” chỉ có 2 dạng là “Can” – Hiện tại và “Could” – quá khứ. ... Can để diễn tả ai có thể làm việc gì ở hiện tại, còn be able to diễn tả ai có thể làm gì trong tương lai.
5)WILL và SHALL đều có nghĩa là sẽ làm gì đó, dùng trong thì tương lai đơn. SHALL thì đi với ngôi thứ nhất số ít và số nhiều (I, we, ...) * Tuy nhiên, nếu như để nhấn mạnh vàđể thể hiện sự quyết tâm, một lời hứa, thì chúng ta sẽ dùng ngược lại, tức là: WILL thì đi với ngôi thứ nhất số ít và số nhiều (I, we, ...)
