Part IV. Read the following passage and choose the correct answer. (2,5 points)

One of the most urgent environmental problems in the world today is the shortage of clean water. Having clean drinking water is a basic human right. But acid rain, industrial pollution and garbage have made many sources of water undrinkable. Lakes, reservoirs and even entire seas have become vast pools of poison. Lake Baikal in Russia is one of the largest lakes in the world. It contains a rich variety of animals and plants, including 1,300 rare species that do not exist anywhere else in the world. But they are being destroyed by the massive volumes of industrial wastes which pour into the lake every day. Even where law existed, the government did not have the power to enforce them. Most industries simply ignore the regulations. The Mediterranean Sea occupies 1% of the world’s water surface. But it is the dumping ground for 50% of all marine pollution. Almost 16 countries regularly throw industrial wastes a few miles off shore.

Water is free to everyone. A few years ago people thought that the supply of clean water in the world was limitless. Today, many water supplies have been ruined by pollution and sewage. Clean water is now scarce, and we are at last beginning to respect this precious source. We should do something now.

 1. One environmental problem in the world today is ________.

  A. acid rain B. safe water shortage

C. industrial pollution D. population explosion

C. It has 1,300 rare species that do not exist anywhere else in the world.

D. The government did not have the power to enforce laws and regulations.

4. How many countries throw industrial wastes into the Mediterranean Sea regularly?

A. exactly 16      B. exactly 15          C. nearly 16 D. less than 15

5. What is the message to the readers?

  A. We should take action to protect our water resources.

  B. We should take all water resources into account.

With the coming of the motor car at the end of the last century a new era in personal transport was born. The early motorist certainly had his problems- the biggest one being whether his vehicle would start or not. This problem has almost disappeared today but others have taken its place. More traffic and faster vehicles mean that, however safe and reliable a car may be, its driver has to have more greater driving skill than ever before. Today's drivers cannot neglect their own direct and personal responsibility for the accidents that happen on the road every year. A good driver has many things in his make- up. Some of them , such as experience and skill, will come only in time , but others - just as important - must be part of him from the start. These qualities are a sense of responsibility for the safety of others, a determination to focus on the job of driving, patience and courtesy. Together, these become what is generally known as the drivers' attitude. Everyone is patient (16) nature or gifted with good (17) of concentration. But because attitude is important a part of safe driving, Therefore every driver must make a real effort to develop these qualities and this effort must start from the very beginning of the first driving lesson.

Read the passage below and choose one correct answer for each question.

A UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) is any object flying in the sky which cannot be identified by the person who sees it. Sometimes the object is investigated. If people can still not figure out what the object is after an investigation, it is called a UFO. If they figure out what the object is, it can no longer be called a UFO because it has been identified.

Even though UFOs can be anything, people often use the word UFO when they are talking about alien spacecraft. Flying saucer is another word that is often used to describe an unidentified flying object.

Studies estimate that 50%-90% of all reported UFO sightings are identified later. Usually 10%-20% are never identified. Studies also show that very few UFO sightings are hoaxes (people trying to trick other people). Most UFOs are actually natural or man-made objects that looked strange. 80%-90% UFOs are identified as one of three different things: astronomical causes (for example: planets, stars, or meteors); aircraft; balloons 10%-20% of UFOs are other causes (such as birds, clouds, mirages, searchlights, etc.)
