Beatrice had had a number of jobs, none of them for very long. She had been a bus conductor ……1…… one time, then a postman, and ...... 2...... she had cleaned the floors in a supermarket. Usually she left the job when she got ......3...... of it. Sometimes she was sacked.

Then one day she saw an ……4…… for a job ……5…… a canal warden. She applied ……6…… the job, just because it sounded interesting, ……7……she had no idea……8……a canal warden did. Surprisingly, she ……9…… the job, and started work a few days ……10…… As ……11…… as she could see, her duties were to ……12…… an official cap and coat, and walk ……13…… the banks of the canal, enjoying the fresh air.

……14…… days when it rained, she ……15……. sit in a cafe nearby and watch the canal ……16……there. She ……17…… us it was the best job she had ever had.

It was too good to …… 18……  of course. One day, she fell into the canal and shouted …… 19……  help. A fellow warden arrived …… 20……  find some passers - by pulling her out.
