Dear....

Today, in Vietnam often encountered many natural disasters such as floods, droughts, hail, tropical storms and other natural disasters. These are the most frightening things people are concerned about. Tropical storms often occur and cause most harm. It usually occurs in the rainy season and occurs most often in central Vietnam and coastal areas. It causes a lot of damage to people and property. First, killing people, livestock and poultry by the flood. Second, crop loss due to flooding. Humans become homeless and lose all their possessions. and many other damages caused by the storm. To prevent and fight against tropical storms, before it takes place, we must make preventive dikes, prepare adequate tools and food and other necessities. When storms occur, people must find safe shelters not to go out. After that, we have to overcome what hurricanes destroy, such as rebuilding houses, and many other things, if we live in that area, we should plant trees, protect the environment and many other practical thíng.

I often hear or read about " natural disasters" - the eruption of Mount St.Helen, a volcano in the State of Washington; Hurricane Andrew in Florida; the floods in the American Midwest; terrible earthquakes all over the world, huge fires and so on. But I'll never forget my first personal experience with the strangeness of nature - "the London Killer fog" in 1952. It began on Thursday, December 4, when a high-pressure system ( warm air) covered Southern England. With the freezing-cold air below, heavy fog formed. Pollution from factories, cars and coal stoves mixed with the fog. The humidity was terribly high, there was no breeze at all. Traffic (cars, trains, boats) stopped. People couldn't see, and some walked onto the railroad tracks or into the river. It was hard to breathe, and many people got sick. Finally, on Tuesday, December 9, the wind came and the fog went away. But after that, even more people got sick. Many of them died

Vietnam usually has a dozen storms every year from June through the end of November, and most of which occur in the Central and northern provinces. November 2nd, 1997, however, was an unexpected day when the major storm Linda raged in the South. Linda was the worst typhoon in Southern Vietnam over 100 years. Over 3000 people were reported lost and died. Ca Mau province, suffered a direct hit by the storm, had the most damage. Gusts and heavy rainfalls caused flooding, destroyed crops, damaged about 200,000 houses and left about 383,000 people homeless. Linda later struck Thailand, causing flash flooding and at least 164 deaths. The storm also affected Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia to a lesser degree.
