PLACES FOR PARTIES

Jack is planning a birthday party with twenty stars from the worlds of sport, music and films. But Jack isn't famous - and the stars aren't real. He's planning a Party for 60 guests at Madame Tussauds, the famous waxworks museum. Jack says he's really excited about the party because Angelina Jolie is waiting for him there.

Sue and Olivia are planning a big family party at a famous landmark: the Tower of London. The venue-called the Pavilion- isn't inside the Tower: it's next to it. There's space for 200 guests to have dinner. One wall of the Pavilion has lots of windows and there are amazing views of the Tower at night.

He has got no brothers or sisters, and he is happy to live at home. He has one luxury- a small secondhand car. At weekends he spends sometime repairing, cleaning and improving it. Worry or problem? No, not really. He's got very few responsibilities, and his salary is good for a man of 22.There is just one thought. He like his job, but he's not sure he would like to do the same job for the next 40 years.

Is Ted leading a happy life? Why?

The Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster - officially named Saint Stephen's Tower - is commonly known as the Big Ben. It is one of London's most famous landmarks. The clock inside the tower was installed in the middle of the nineteenth century. It is the largest clock in the world. The name Big Ben actually refers to the largest of the clock's five bells. The clock faces have a diameter of almost 7.5m. The hour hand is 2.7m long and the minute hand measures 4.25m long. The clock, designed by Edmund Beckett Denison, has a remarkable accuracy. It is known for its reliability because it has rarely failed during its long life span. Even after the nearby House of Commons was destroyed by bombing during World War II, the clock kept on chiming.

The Clock Tower (Big Ben) is one of the most famous places in London.

My family’s party

I’ll never forget last July. That’s when my big sister and her boyfriend decided to get married, and my

parents had a fantastic party at our house to celebrate.

First, my mum and I went shopping for food and drink. At six o’clock, my sister’s friends arrived for the party. At seven o’clock, my dad started the barbecue in the garden and after that we cooked potatoes and burgers. It was a very warm night. We ate the food and then Dad started the firework display – that was a great surprise. Finally, at about eleven o’clock, everyone went home.

There were about twenty people and we all had a good time. Only our dog didn’t enjoy the party. He stayed in the house – he didn’t like the noise of the fireworks! It was a great evening and I was really happy.

Jack.
