Holi Festival is important to the Hinđu as well as many other Indian and South Asian origin people. It was held in late winter, on the last full moon of the lunar month of Phalgun (February or March), (Phalgun Purnima), which usually falls in March, sometimes in late February

The Festival has many purposes, but the most prominent is the marked spring. In the literature of the 17th century, it has been defined as an agricultural Festival, the Festival celebrates the season bumper harvest in the spring, good and fertile. The Hindus believe that there is a time to enjoy the rich colors of spring and say goodbye to winter. For many religious Hinđu, the Festival of Holi marks the beginning of the new year as well as an occasion to reset and refresh the already broken relationship, end conflicts and freeing themselves by dirty feelings of impurities accumulated from the past.

It also has a religious purpose, the icon shown in the legend of Holika. The night before Holi, bonfires are lit in a ceremony called the Dahan (burning of Holika) or Little Holi. People gather near the fire, singing and dancing. The next day, Holi, also known as Dhuli in Sanskrit Dhulheti, Dhulandi or Dhulendi, or, are held. Children and adolescents of color solution spray powder (the colored gulal) on each other, laugh and celebrate, while adults obliterate pigments dry (abir) on each other's faces.Visiting the first House to be teased with color, then served with the food typical of Holi, desserts and drinks. After playing with colors and clear, people bathing, dressing clean and visit friends and family.

Like Holika Dahan, Kama Dahanam are held in some regions in India. The Festival of colors in these regions is known as Rangapanchami, and on Thursday the day after the full moon. (Poornima)

I. Read the following passage and decide if it is T or F.

Many people still believe that natural resources will never be used up. Actually, the world’s energy resources are limited. Nobody knows exactly how much fuel is left. However, we also should use them economically and try to find out alternative sources of power. According to Professor Marvin Burnharm of the New England Institude of Technology, we have to start conserving coal, oil and gas before it is too late; and nuclear power is the only alternative.

However, many people do not approve of using nuclear power because it’s very dangerous. What would happen if there was a serious nuclear accident? Radioactivity causes cancer and may badly affect the future generations.

The most effective thing is that we should use natural resources as economical as possible.
