In 1985, she and Christa McAuliffe were chosen from 11,000 applicants to become part of the teacher-in-space program. They trained together for the mission. But then, tragedy happened. On January 28,1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded. After the Challenger accident, Morgan continued to teach. In 1998, she was asked again to become an astronaut.
