The line graph illustrates population trends in Vietnam from 1960 to 2020. Overall, the urban population steadily increased throughout the period, while the rural population showed a gradual decline.
In 1960, most Vietnamese people lived in rural areas, with the rural population accounting for around 75% of the total population. However, from 1960 to 1980, the rural population remained relatively stable, with only slight fluctuations. By contrast, the urban population began to rise during this period, starting at about 25% in 1960. By 1980, the urban population had increased significantly, reaching around 35%.
From 1990, the trend continued as the urban population grew rapidly, reaching nearly 50% by 2000 and surpassing 60% by 2020. Meanwhile, the rural population declined steadily, falling below 40% by 2020. This shift reflects ongoing urbanization in Vietnam over the past few decades.
