 giải : 

Một lớp có 1/3 học sinh nam bằng 1/4 số HS nữ có nghĩa là số hs nam ứng với 3 phần ; hs nữ ứng với 4 phần

          tổng số phần bằng nhau là :

                             3+4 = 7 ( phần )

              số học sinh nữ là 

                        42 :7 * 4 = 24 (học sinh)

               số học sinh nam là :

                       42 - 24= 18 ( học sinh)

               đáp số :

Đặt số h/s nam là a,số h/s nữ là b.

Biết 1/3 a = 1/4 b

=> a = 3/4 b

Lại có tổng s/p(số phần): 3 + 4 = 7

=> a = 42 : 7 x 3 = 18

<=> b = 42 - 18 = 24

Vậy số h/s nam là 18,số h/s nữ là 24.
