Here's what Jessie Stevenson, a young girl from Los Angeles, did last year on Earth Day.
1. She got up at 7:30 and had her breakfast in a rush. She left home for school at 8:00 but didn't go by bus as she used to. She rode her bicycle on a beautiful day instead of taking the bus. On her way to school, she noticed the peaceful neighborhood with trees along the street. A bit further, there was a lovely farmhouse and a breathtaking landscape with a large green field and animals. She had lived there for years, but it seems she was looking at all that for the very first time.
2. At school, she attended a meeting with the rest of her class about eco-issues, such as pollution, global warming, and endangered species. She felt angry when she realized that little was being done to protect the environment and a lot to destroy it. After the meeting, they all wrote a letter to the Cabinet of the Environment claiming strong measures to protect Nature, and at lunchtime, they planted trees outside.
3. When Jessie got back home, she felt like a different person. She urged her parents to help her clean up all the litter in their neighborhood and plant trees in an empty field nearby. From that day on, Jessie and her parents have been fighting to preserve the environment, recycling products, and protecting animals as much as possible. They even become known in their neighborhood as “the green neighborhoods.”
